It’s no secret that the wellness industry has been on the rise over the past few years. In fact, The Global Wellness Institute confirms that the worldwide wellness industry grew to $3.72 trillion, from 2013-2015, making it, according to GWI, “one of the world’s fastest-growing, most resilient markets.”
“For millennials, wellness is a daily, active pursuit, and one they are willing to spend on. Many of them bring fitness into everyday life visibly by wearing athleisure apparel for all kinds of activities other than working out.” ~ Forbes (Wellness Is The New Luxury)
Thanks to the growing popularity of athleisure, some of our favorite athletic wear companies have finally taken note that they were missing a valuable opportunity in their product offering — office appropriate clothing that feel as comfy as activewear. If you’re a corporate career gal, I’m sure you’ve experienced times when you really really don’t want to dress up to the office… especially on days when you’re flying somewhere for work. I consider myself pretty lucky because despite working in a PR firm, the digital department where I work tends to be a bit more casual. Jeans, sneakers, off-shoulder tops — they’re all welcome but sometimes I still want to look put together without, well, putting a lot of work into it. 😉
Enter one of the newer trends this year… WORKLEISURE. This amazing new category of apparel helps remove the temptation to wear yoga pants to the office (which I’ll admit, I’ve done in the winter), and now gives us working women some new, comfy options.
What you see here is one of my favorite casual workleisure dresses from Athleta. It’s SO soft, provides appropriate coverage and feels as comfortable as my yoga apparel. Although it’s fitted, it’s not so tight that I would be mistaken for preparing to go out to the club vs. going to a meeting. I’ve dressed it up here with plain black pumps but I’ll admit that most of the time I wear this dress with my white Stan Smith sneakers. In my opinion, sneakers are totally acceptable for the office, so long as they are clean and air more on the “fashion” vs. fitness side.
To pull the look together I added my favorite mini backpack from Kate Spade that is surprisingly roomie. A trendy pair of sunglasses and my go-to MVMT watch polished off the look and voila! Ready to werk werk werk.
Until next time,
