Autumn is officially here in NYC. The air is crisp, the leaves are starting to change colors, the smell of pumpkin spice lattes permeate every coffee shop, and wardrobes are making that subtle shift from Summer to Fall. As much as I appreciate and love Summer (#SummerBaby for life!) I have to say being able to witness the change of seasons in the Northeast has made me fall head over heels for Autumn. I already have a few must-have activities planned for October, including apple picking upstate, carving pumpkins, baking all the apple pie, and hosting a fun acro-yoga class in the park before it gets too chilly.
But before I get to all the really fun stuff, I’m starting with transitioning my wardrobe over to the colder season. This concept is still relatively new to me since in Florida my Summer wardrobe lasted me all year – minus the one or two weeks when the temp would dip below 70 degrees and I could finally wear boots and a light jacket. Now that I’m a New Yorker and living in an apartment that lacks ample wardrobe space, it really only makes sense to pack up my summer wear into a box that I store under my bed, and proceed to fill my tiny closet with sweaters, cardigans, and outerwear.
This outfit is relatively new and to my delight, I got the entire ensemble for just under $100. Yep – that includes this vegan suede jacket, embroidered mule loafers, jeans, t-shirt and even a few of the accessories. Talk about a steal! Don’t underestimate Marshalls ya’ll. You have to be patient and do some digging but I almost always find one or two items that I LOVE for a major discount.
These Catherine Malandrino mule loafers are easily becoming my favorite shoe of the season. They’re comfy, chic and go with just about everything – not to mention I think they bare a very close resemblance to the $800 Gucci Princetown Leather Slippers. I snagged them for $15. Which is CRAZY.
I’m pretty lucky that my office is relatively casual, especially when you’re on the digital team, like me. Jeans are a regular part of my office wardrobe but I know for many of you corporate gals, jeans (even nice ones) are reserved for a casual Fall Friday. If you need to make this more work appropriate, you can always swap out the denim for high waisted blacked trousers or knee-length skirt. I recommend keeping the other details though or add your own fun accessories to make this office style your own. 😉 And if you can get away with nice jeans, go for it!
As I mentioned, my jacket and shoes are from Marshalls (although you can find them at Macy’s and Nordstrom Rack respectively) but the other pieces of this outfit were from a local Brooklyn boutique. Since I couldn’t link all of the exact pieces, I included some very similar favorites that you can shop below:
Stay tuned for more Fall and Winter looks coming soon!
