The Power Of She
A movement inviting women and girls to stand together, collaborate, and put an end to undermining.
When women come together in support and encouragement, incredible things can happen. This is what the Power of She is all about it and one of the many reasons why I absolutely adore Athleta. They’re one of the first brands that reached out to me when I first started blogging, and I’m so thankful for the partnership we’ve shared ever since.
Seriously you guys, I can’t stress the importance of cultivating meaningful relationships. Whether it’s with your friends, family, followers, colleagues or even brands… connection is everything. Just last weekend, I saw the fruition of these connections blossom into a pretty amazing morning at Athleta’s Flatiron studio.
On June 11th, fourteen women came together to get “Fit For Summer” with a 45 minute workout that I co-hosted with my friend, Brittany (@bin_nycity). The idea sparked after my first Fitness Blogger Meetup at Studio Anya a few months ago. I had so much fun bringing people together to enjoy a unique (and Instagrammable) sweat sesh and knew that I wanted to make it a reoccurring thing.
When I had the opportunity to partner with the Athleta Flatiron store, I immediately asked Britt if she would be willing to put the event together with me. Our styles of fitness are so different (she prefers HIIT training and I’d rather be on a yoga mat) but that’s what made the partnership so fun! Fit For Summer was a unique mesh of our two personalities. Once we had all the details squared away it was like waiting for Christmas morning for the day to arrive.
It was the first class that I ever taught and despite the fact that my section was only 15 minutes long, I was really nervous. Thankfully, Brittany is SUCH a badass and she led the first 30 minute bootcamp with such energy that I couldn’t help but continue to ride the high throughout the partner yoga session!
The bootcamp consisted of tabata circuits with a heavy focus on building arm and core strength. Think lots of planks, push ups, burpees and other such exercises that are meant to leave your muscles feeling shaky AF. Brittany of course showed off the full expressions of each move while leading everyone through them, and I opted to show off the modified variations. I mean… there’s a reason why Brittany has some of the best arms and abs in the biz and I’m just over here working on my yoga butt. 😉
After the brutal tabata training was over, I took the mic and led the class through a series of four different partner yoga poses. They started out gentle and eventually got more difficult. We ended with a kick line style Warrior 3 with everyone lined up with linked arms and extended legs. All the ladies absolutely crushed the whole workout!
Afterwards, we had time to take photos before heading upstairs and indulging in some delicious treats from our sponsors, Emmy’s Organics and Go Macro. If you’re looking for some really yummy, healthy snacks you need to check them both out! I’m obsessed with Emmy’s coconut cookies (especially the chocolate chip kind). SO freakin’ good.
We ended the morning with a double giveaway courtesy of Athleta. Congrats to Ivy and AJ for winning a $50 giftcard and a pair of leggings! I left that morning riding such a grateful wave and with a new confirmation that teaching classes is exactly what I want to do. I’m doing my best to soak up everything I can from my Yoga Teacher Training so I can continue to bring women together to sweat, move and breathe as a collective.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the strong women who joined us last week! You all are the reason why riding this crazy blogging train is so worth it.
Stay tuned for more events coming soon!
So much love for you all.
