There’s something about weddings that you can’t help but love. Each one is incredibly unique; an experience that allows the personality of the couple to shine and for the guests to witness two people vowing to spend the rest of their lives as one. If you haven’t guessed – I’m a hopeless romantic. I’ve shamelessly read almost every Nicholas Sparks novel and cry anytime I hear a sappy love song on the radio. So it should come as no surprise that weddings have made it on my list of favorite things ever. As a friend of mine was saying just earlier today, when else can you dress up, drink and eat for free, dance the night away with friends and celebrate the joy of love?
This past weekend Bay and I were doing just that. Our good friends Molly and Anthony had the most beautiful wedding on the back porch of their family beach house in the heart of Topsail Island. The house was strung with white lights, and the tables were dressed with crisp white linens adorned with candles and white and green floral arrangements. There was a beautiful view of the beach and the salty breeze kept us cool on an otherwise warm, May evening. It was such a personal and romantic wedding… and we loved every minute of it.
The attire for the wedding was “beach chic,” a mix of casual elegance that calls for summery attire. So in other words, definitely not an occasion for a little black dress.
Bay was the best man so he wore a really nice blue suit with a golden yellow tie that matched my dress perfectly. (Major kudos to him for picking that out by himself with nothing but a photo for reference!) I chose this yellow maxi dress and tropical clutch from Lulus that I dressed up with a pair of sparkly earrings and neutral heels. For makeup I opted for a more natural, sunkissed look and gave myself beachy waves because 1) that’s my go-to hairstyle and 2) the humidity was going to destroy anything else I tried to do. 😉
I have to say, I’m kinda obsessed with this dress! It’s lightweight, the perfect length (I’m 5’8″), fitted on the top with a full, flowy skirt. The crocheted lace is the icing on the cake – it adds just the right touch of elegance without appearing overdone. Bonus: it’s only $69.
The clutch is super fun and added a really fun, beachy element to the ensemble. It’s a classic envelope style with embroidery, beads and pompoms that line the front. The best part is that with summer right around the corner I’m already envisioning using this for rooftop happy hours, pool parties and trips to see my fam in Florida.
If you’re looking for other beach chic wedding guest attire here are a few simple guidelines to follow:
- Go for color
- Keep the accessories to a minimum
- Stick to lightweight materials (like chiffon)
