Hey loves! If you’ve been following my daily adventures on Instagram, you may recall that my boyfriend, Bay, and I just joined a gym. It may not seem like a big deal but it’s actually a really great step for the two of us to start working out together. Until now, I’ve been flying solo with my home yoga practice and bi-weekly fitness classes via ClassPass. Aside from the random fitness event or weekend morning workout, I’ve always preferred to keep my sweat sessions strictly after work. This is partly because I feel like it’s a great way to relieve stress and also because I find it terribly difficult to do anything before 9am. Meanwhile, Bay has always been a morning runner and seeing as I’m so not a morning person… I very rarely joined him. Long story short, joining a gym has been a commitment for the two of us to start working out together and for me to try and make morning workouts a thing. The struggle is real guys so wish me luck!
Now that morning workouts are officially becoming a thing for me, I figured it was time to perfect my post-workout beauty routine. Luckily I’ve been pretty good at keeping my normal makeup routine super simple to begin with so tailoring it to work post sweat sesh was easy peezy.
To begin, here I am sans makeup and fresh faced (except for my filled in eyebrows because truthfully I don’t leave the house without grooming these babies).
If you’ve had a particular grueling workout you’re probably beet red and sweaty by the time you’re done, which means the first step before this makeup routine is to wash your face. You can also use face wipes (I like THESE) or just splash your face with really cold water. Then follow these simple steps below:
Mist Rosewater Toner All Over Face
I have fallen in love with Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater. I picked it up for $7 at my local Urban Outfitters but you can also get it at Ulta, Amazon or Saks 5th Ave. It has a lovely light floral scent and it’s a great way to quickly refresh and hydrate your skin.
Apply A Lightweight Foundation With SPF
I’m obsessed with Milk Makeup’s Sunshine Skin Tint SPF 30 which comes packaged up in this nifty rollerball pen. It’s formulated without parabens and hydrates skin with an infusion of grapeseed and avocado oils. Oh – and for all my animal loving friends, it’s vegan and cruelty-free! Not to mention it smells amazing!!
Add A Cream Blush
Another one of my fave products from the geniuses at Milk Makeup is the Lip + Cheek stick. The creamy formula instantly melts onto your skin and is super easy to blend. All you have to do is apply a little with your fingers and then add a bit to your lips. Voila!
Add A Little Eyeshadow
The common trend with most of these products is that there’s no brush required, which is why I love the “Day Goals” Shadow Quad by Milk Makeup. The neutral colors are easily buildable and have a marshmallow like consistency. I like to keep my eye makeup pretty sheer for every day use so I just applied a tiny bit of each color to my lids and blended it up towards my brow bone.
Apply Mascara
Alright so real talk, Lash Domination by Bare Minerals isn’t exactly my favorite mascara ever but it does the trick in a pinch. On the plus side it’s cruelty-free and the mascara does make your lashes look really long. I really love IT Cosmetic’s Hello Lashes 5-in-1 mascara but I literally ran out right before this tutorial. Boo!
Swipe On Lip Balm
I’ve talked about my love for Smith’s Rosebud Salve when I first started this blog and it’s still my go-to lip balm. It has a light rose scent and is the perfect remedy for chapped lips. I used to get it in tin form but found that the tube is so much easier. Less mess = happy camper.
Set With Powder (Optional)
Okay, so two thoughts on this. 1) This blurring powder by Becca Cosmetics is probably my favorite beauty product of all time. It’s like a Snapchat filter but IRL… seriously, it’s amazing. 2) The packaging is super bulky and it’s loose powder, so definitely not meant to be transported in a gym bag. If you have a chance to run home after your workout, I highly recommend swirling this all over your face with a big powder or kabuki brush. It sets the rest of your makeup, eliminates shine, blurs imperfections, all while adding a subtle “glow.” I can’t say enough good things about it.
There you have it! I had to run inside to snap a selfie of the finished look so you could see it a little better. Nothing fancy but it’s great for when you need to run from the studio to the office! It took me less than 5 minutes to go through all the steps so hopefully you’ll find it to be pretty convenient.

Video tutorials are way out of my comfort zone but I’ll eventually make a point to do one for you all! As always, thanks so much for reading. And special thanks to Athleta for my chic and comfy attire.
Wishing you all a happy and beautiful week ahead!
