Hi guys! I’m currently writing this from 36,000 ft. in the air as I head to sunny Los Angeles for a few days! Propel is sending me to the IDEA World Fitness Blog Fest and I couldn’t be more excited. For those of you who haven’t heard of it, the IDEA conference is a massive fitness expo featuring some of the top health, fitness and wellness professionals in the country. There are a ton of fun workout sessions and parties, but it’s mostly an amazing opportunity to meet other passionate bloggers who are all trying to live a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
My first workout with Propel is scheduled for 6AM tomorrow morning, which I’m a little anxious about because I am so not an early bird. Thank goodness for the time zone difference – since it’ll technically be 9AM EST I’m hoping I won’t feel like death as I try to keep up with the other fitness bloggers who are joining me. Despite the early call time, I’m pretty pumped about the workout since A) it’s on the beach and B) Gunnar Peterson, an amazing celebrity personal trainer who trains professional athletes as well as celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Sylvester Stallone, is leading it (Ahh!).
In typical Melanie fashion, I waited until the very last minute to pack my bags and was in a chaotic packing frenzy last night trying to make sure I had everything I needed. If I was smart I would have packed ahead of time and had this lovely post ready for you all before I was in route to Cali, but oh well! Thank goodness for FlyFi! So now it’s on to the good stuff… all my favorite things that I’m lugging along with me.
Since this is first and foremost a fitness event, I of course had to pack an assortment of my cutest yoga attire. I’m dying over this playful tank top from Victoria’s Secret (pictured above) – although I’ll be the first to admit that the caption is a bald-faced lie. Sorry guys, but I’m much more of a crunch AFTER brunch kinda gal (don’t get in the way of me and my food!). A few other fun workout shirts I’m loving are below:
I also made sure to pack my new favorite outfit by Alo Yoga! (You can find the top here and the bottoms here). Yellow is quickly becoming my go-to color for summer, it’s just so bright and cheerful – not to mention it makes me look 10x more tan than I really am! I don’t splurge on Alo Yoga often but these pants make me so happy I may just need to get another outfit asap…
Since I know I’ll be running between blogger sessions and workouts, I want to ensure that I stay extra hydrated. I know there will be plenty of Propel Electrolyte Water on hand, so I’m bringing my S’well bottle to keep it nice and cold throughout the day. Actually, this is Bay’s S’well bottle but I stole it from him since mine is gigantic and I wanted something a little more portable for this trip. If you haven’t bought into the S’well bottle hype yet you’re missing out – they have some really beautiful designs and I love that they give back to organizations like American Forests and Unicef.
Another absolute necessity is of course my digital camera. A few people have reached out to me asking what camera I use for my photos, and I’m totally fine with admitting that I am not fancy enough for a pro level Nikon or Canon. Since Bay and I are both amateurs we went with the Sony Alpha 6000, which honestly has been so amazing and a little more affordable than some of it’s heavy duty counterparts. I have to say I’m pretty lucky to have Bay as my go-to photographer because whenever I’m left to capture my own images I can never get them quite right. This is probably due to the fact that I still have no clue how to properly adjust the white balance and words like “iso” and “aperture” sound like they belong in a chemistry lab and not on a camera… hehe
That’s where the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 comes in! I mean, yes polaroids may be a bit unpractical but I find them to be charming, nostalgic and fun for capturing spontaneous moments while on vacation. I have a really cute display in my apartment that I linked below and have a few smaller frames placed on my desk at work.
So the final, and possibly most important, item in my suitcase is my brand new stack of biz cards! I ordered these on moo.com a couple weeks ago after realizing that it’s kind of a vital necessity for a blogger who is about to go meet hundreds of other bloggers and fitness professionals. lol I chose a pretty simple template with 7 different images from my Instagram on the back of each card.
I know some people are hesitant about opting for a square format but I kind of love them! What are your thoughts though? Are square cards a total faux pas?
Of course these aren’t the only things in my travel bags, but I really don’t want to bore you with my toiletry details. I’ll be documenting my experience on Instagram all week so be sure to follow along for a peek at all the festivities!
As always, thanks for reading! Sending you lots of love and good vibes for the week ahead. ✌️
