Pamper Yourself: Tips for a DIY spa day

This week’s #MondayMotivation is all about treating yourself to some much needed self love and pampering.

I think we can all agree that adulting (that is, the act of being an adult) is super hard. Paying bills, keeping up with daily chores, putting in those extra hours at work – while all completely necessary, can make a person feel quite burned out after the end of a long week. And if you’re anything like me, once you fall into a pattern of endless task managing it’s easy to put self care on the back burner.

That’s why last night I decided to create a “spa-esque” environment to calm my mind, rejuvenate my spirit and of course keep me looking and feeling my best as I tackle the week to come. If you’re looking to get your pampering on, read on for a few of my fav at home spa day essentials:

Tip #1: Set the mood

Before rushing into a bath or hot shower, it’s important to set the right kind of mood for a tranquil atmosphere. I love to fill the bathroom with my favorite lavender scented candles and turn on a soothing playlist on Spotify. My friend Erica introduced me to Beach House a few months back when we were stargazing on her dock in Florida, and now they’re my go to band for anytime I’m in a dreamy mood.

Oh, and don’t forget to set out something comfy (and pretty) for when you’re done bathing. Whether it’s a fluffy robe or your favorite lacy slip, just make sure it’ll make you feel beautiful.

Tip #2: Jazz up your bath

If you haven’t tried Lush bath bombs you are seriously missing out. The fizzy, flowery, essential oil filled wonderfulness transforms your ordinary bath into a magical cleansing experience fit for unicorns.😉  In all seriousness though, they do give your bath a very spa-like vibe and smell absolutely amazing.

Tip #3: Treat your skin to TLC

After bathing or showering it’s so important to rehydrate your skin with your favorite lotion. I recently saw this awesome video tutorial on Top Knot for DIY lotion bars and after ordering all the ingredients this past week I finally put it to the test today. Made up of ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax and essential oils – these little bars are a natural treat for your skin.

I went with the lavender recipe, but ended up using eucalyptus essential oil (because that’s what I had on hand). They were incredibly simple to make and the end results are adorable!

Tip – play around with different measurements for each of the ingredients to find out what works best for you. Mine ended up a little sticky so I’m going to add less beeswax next time and more coconut oil. I really want to try the rose scented one next so I’ll let you all know how it goes!

Tip #4: Give yourself a mini facial

If you’ve been reading my blog since I launched it a few months ago you’ll probably know I’m a big fan of the Tony Moly facial masks (read all about it here). Today I decided to go with the brightening mask – just because my skin has been looking a little dull lately and I felt it warranted a little bit of a pick me up.

Find a comfy place to lay down and apply the super hydrating, fragrant sheet mask to your skin for 15-20 minutes before removing. For an added spa treat place sliced cucumbers on your eyes – it does wonders for reducing puffiness, as well as helping to tone and firm your skin.

Tip #5: Calm your mind

Before calling it a night, drink a glass of your favorite detox water (I love to add lemon and basil to mine) and find a comfortable seated position on your bed. Slowly start to focus on your breathing – inhaling deeply in, exhaling slowly out… clearing your mind of any stress, worries or anxiety. Doing this for even 5-10 minutes will make you feel instantly more relaxed and prepared for a good night sleep. 😴

I hope that you’ve found these tips helpful and if nothing else feel inspired to treat yourself to some much needed pampering asap!

Wishing you a lovely week ahead.
